Sneaker fans love the experience of unboxing, and Eskju | Bretz & Jung wanted to capture that excitement in their limited edition T-shirt packaging. The designers aimed to create a package that was not only cool and handmade but also environmentally friendly. They found their inspiration in the humble pizza box, a substrate that is often undervalued by consumers.
The package design features changing tonal values and a vibrant red color to enhance the power of the logo. Graphic symbols and simple typography were chosen to create a visually appealing and cohesive look. The T-shirt itself is made from organic cotton and screen-printed by hand with four screens, resulting in a design that is both unique and intense.
The production process involved hand-drawing and vectorizing the illustration for the T-shirt. The screen-printing was done using spot colors with halftones to achieve a more vibrant and impactful look. The package was printed in one step using water-based color, ensuring an environmentally friendly approach.
Despite the tight deadline, the team at Eskju | Bretz & Jung successfully completed the project in just a few weeks. The result is a limited edition T-shirt packaging that not only showcases their detailed illustrations but also reflects their commitment to affordability, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
This innovative design by Eskju | Bretz & Jung was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2015. The packaging design stood out for its creativity, resourcefulness, and incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology. By transforming a simple cardboard box into a collectible work of art, Eskju | Bretz & Jung have made a lasting impact on the world of packaging design.
